Shapes and Sizes Lampshade Blog

Hello and welcome to Hannah's Blog number two!
This month is about the different shapes and sizes that I can make for customers which I might not advertise very clearly. Over the last few years I have developed an large range of different skills and so there are shapes which I have tried to make which maybe success or some not so successful.
The basics are there are 2 types of Lampshade making techniques!
There are soft lampshades and hard lampshades.
Soft Lampshades are normally the Victorian style lampshades. The metal frame is bound in a cotton fabric and then the fabric is hand sewn on to the frame. It is often then decorated with bindings and fringes and you have a stunning one off shade. They are expensive because the hours of hand sewing and creating a beautiful lampshade.
Unfortunately I broke my wrist a few years ago and that means I can't hand sew without a lot of pain! So I make Hard Lampshades instead!
Hard lampshades made using a fire safe PVC to cover fabric and then wrap around the frame. Finally you close the seam and tuck into fabric under the metal rings.
(Quick Note: If you want to learn to make lampshades I do run workshops so do get in contact.)
It's possible to make a huge number of shapes and sizes to suit your home so I am going to run through a list I can create.
Drum lampshades are the foundation of our living rooms, We normally pick them up cheap and don't think about how they are manufactured in place such as China. I try to offer a good selection handmade by me there are a few other sizes that are huge but this is the general sizing my customers want

Conical Lampshades are my favourite! I love them so much and there are amazing. The only down side to them is you have to be aware the pattern on the fabric can warp so you might not get a straight pattern. My Favourite the the extreme conical with has the 50cm below. Watch the fun video link to watch me roll one up!

Finally but not less any more beautiful are the Squares, rectangles and Ovals.
This is a new range and this year so I am slow developing the designs for them. Oval Lampshades are so lovely in a bedroom .

So I hope that helps you all understand all the shapes and sizes, as always if you want something different just drop me a message and I can try and help!
